The First Step In Your Cancer Journey

Mindset is huge in our healing journey.  The very first thing I did when I was figuring out whether I had cancer or not was to begin to control my thoughts around it. Here are a few tips from my own journey that I found helpful.  Ultimately, you have to believe that you can heal, so surround yourself with things that constantly remind you that you CAN!

Faith in God:

Know that God heals and you are worthy of healing!!!

God designed our incredible bodies and they are always striving to heal us and bring us back into homeostasis no matter how much we have abused them in the past… our bodies are simply amazing.

I always put God in my pocket when I went to appointments and treatments, I would internally say, “Ok God!  Let’s go show how awesome and amazing you are!  And how amazing this body that you created is! Let’s show them how you HEAL!”  Then go with faith and confidence because God is on your side!

How do I know God heals?  Well, because what did Christ do when he was here?  He HEALED!  He HEALED!  He HEALED!  So many people and things were healed by Christ.  And He can heal us too!  Why wouldn’t He?  He loves us!

Some great resources are the HealingStrong devotionals and many other resources you can download to immerse yourself in God’s love and heart for healing.

Survivor Stories:

Grab a hold of hope from others who have fought the fight and won!  Read or listen to one a day or whenever you need some inspiration.  Think of others you may know personally who have also fought cancer and survived!

Chris Wark, a 20 year cancer survivor, is an amazing cancer patient advocate, author and speaker who has dedicated years to helping educate others and helps give hope to those who are dealing with cancer. Listen to some of his interviews with other cancer survivors and take hope from their stories! You can also find interviews with other doctors and practitioners he has shared over the years on his blog.

You can listen to incredible stories of people who are thriving who share their faith in God and believe they can be healed, no matter the diagnosis on the I AM HealingStrong podcast

Meditations:

I listened to various meditations that talked about healing and health all the time, and especially as I was sleeping so that it would seep into my mind subliminally.  I used the free app Insight Timer.  Here is a list of my favorite meditations that I listened to on repeat.  My very most favorite was Cancer Immune Enhancement by Avinoam Lerner.

Cancer Immune Enhancement by Avinoam Lerner
Healing the Body Affirmations by Dr Janette Freeman
Your Body is Amazing by Fleur Chambers
Become Your Own Placebo by Naomi Goodlet
Cancer Healing and Recovery by Dexter and Alessandrina
Speak to Cancer by Gulmira Mamedova
Healing Light for Cancer by Roberta Truscott
Whole Being Regeneration by Magnetic Minds

You can search for other meditations as well on the app, so feel free to explore!

You can also create your own meditations in your own voice to listen to. Here is a quick little how-to I created for you, if this is something you want to try.

Healing Frequencies

You can also listen to music with healing frequencies while you sleep or do other things.  YouTube has a lot of relaxing spa like music and sounds with these frequencies.  Look for ones that are 528-hz which are believed to promote healing and repair at the cellular level.

Don’t Name It or Claim It

How we speak matters and our body listens and believes whatever we say.  So don’t claim it by saying, “MY cancer”, instead replace it with “THE cancer” etc.  It’s tricky.  Enlisting others who can help you spot when you say things like that can help you catch it and reframe it.

Managing Interactions With Others

Speaking of enlisting others to help you, I was very selective about who I told initially. I didn’t want a lot of fear or worry surrounding the diagnosis. The very first people I told were my prayer warriors. The people I knew who would pray in faith for me while I was undergoing all the testing.

After the official diagnosis was received I began telling more friends and family but I set some boundaries. I told them I had faith that God can heal me and that I only wanted positive and faith filled discussion surrounding the cancer. Now I know people who love me were worried about me, and that’s completely fine and understandable, but I asked them to please worry about me away from my presence if they needed to, because I needed hopeful, healing thoughts and energy during that time.

Finally I made an announcement on my personal Facebook page since the word was getting out and about anyway at that point. It was a rip the bandaid off moment in my life, but also another opportunity to manage how I would love my interactions to be with others. I basically told them about the diagnosis, that I was hopeful and had faith I could be healed and that I would appreciate any hopeful thoughts, stories or experiences of others OR anything humorous! Because laughter is always good medicine! ~wink~wink~

I think people are more than willing to help you out but sometimes don’t know exactly how! By giving them directions it helps them know how to be more supportive.

So mindset is the very first piece in the cancer journey. Stay tuned as I share more about some of the other key things I feel helped me out during that time! I hope that by sharing some of these personal things from my own experience that they will help you or others you may know as well!

To your health and healing!
