Natural Ways To Combat Spring Allergies
Spring is Here—And So Are the Allergies!

Ahhh, spring! The sun is shining, flowers are blooming, and birds are chirping. You throw open the windows to let in that fresh air… and then—BAM! The sneezing starts. Your eyes itch. Your throat feels scratchy. And just like that, you’re in a full-blown battle with seasonal allergies.
If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone. Millions of people struggle with spring allergies, thanks to pollen, dust, and other airborne irritants. But before you reach for another antihistamine that leaves you drowsy, let’s talk about some natural ways to get relief—starting with one of my absolute favorites…the neti pot.
What Is a Neti Pot, and Why Should You Try It?

If you’ve never used a neti pot before, you might be wondering what this tiny, teapot-like contraption is all about. It’s actually an ancient Ayurvedic practice that helps flush out allergens, mucus, and irritants from your nasal passages using a simple saline solution.
Think of it as a mini spring cleaning for your sinuses!
How a Neti Pot Helps With Allergies
When you inhale pollen, dust, and other allergens, they get trapped in your nasal passages, leading to congestion, sneezing, and that oh-so-lovely runny nose. Using a neti pot helps rinse all that gunk out, making it easier to breathe. Plus, it can:
✅ Reduce sinus pressure and congestion
✅ Keep nasal passages moist and healthy
✅ Help prevent sinus infections
✅ Provide relief without medication
How to Use a Neti Pot (Without Feeling Like You’re Drowning)
If you’re new to neti pots, I won’t lie… the first time can feel a little weird. But once you get the hang of it, it’s super easy. Here’s how:
1️⃣ Get the right water. Always use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled water to avoid introducing bacteria into your sinuses. Tap water can contain impurities that don’t belong up your nose! Don’t believe me?…Check out what’s in your city’s water here…just put in your zip code!
2️⃣ Mix your saline solution. You can buy pre-made saline packets or make your own by dissolving ¼ teaspoon of non-iodized salt in 8 ounces of warm, sterile water.

3️⃣ Find a comfy spot. Lean over a sink, tilt your head slightly to one side, and insert the spout into your upper nostril.
4️⃣ Pour and breathe through your mouth. Let the water flow through your nasal passage and out the other nostril. (Yes, it feels weird at first, but stick with it!)
5️⃣ Repeat on the other side. Blow your nose gently and marvel at how much clearer you can breathe.
My Favorite Neti Pot
You can buy the traditional ceramic style neti pots, but when my kiddos were little we switched to this bottle type instead because the bottle was easier for them to hold and get the right angle to rinse their noses out. We haven’t looked back since! They are so easy to use!

More Natural Ways to Combat Spring Allergies
While neti pots are amazing, they’re even more effective when combined with other natural allergy remedies. Here are a few more ways to get relief:

🌿 Local Honey – A spoonful a day may help your body adjust to local pollen levels.
🌿 Quercetin – A natural plant compound found in onions, apples, and berries that can help reduce histamine response.
🌿 Stinging Nettle Tea – Acts as a natural antihistamine without the drowsiness.
🌿 HEPA Filters – Using an air purifier can trap pollen and dust before they reach your nose.
🌿 Essential Oils – Eucalyptus and peppermint can help open up your airways.
Don’t Let Allergies Ruin Your Spring
Spring allergies can be a pain, but they don’t have to control your life. A little neti pot magic, plus some natural remedies, can help you enjoy the season without the sneezing fits.
Have you ever tried a neti pot? If so, are you a fan or still getting used to the idea?
